2014 Grand Marshal

Laura has lived in Northwest Arkansas for 32 years. Originally from West Fork, she now lives in Fayetteville with her family of four adults, three children, two cats and a tiny dog. Laura has a degree in nursing and a background in pediatrics and school nursing. She has been involved with the center for more than 5 years and has worked with national groups such as GetEqual (former state lead), Arkansas ACLU, GLAAD, GLSEN, NCLR and PFLAG. She is passionate about changing the world for the better, one chip at a time and has worked with state legislatures to pass Arkansas’ school anti bully law, considered to be one of the best in the nation. Laura has lobbied on capitol hill with GLSEN to encourage passage of the Safe Schools Act and worked on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal, Arkansas marriage equality, and local anti bullying awareness. An employee of the University of Arkansas, she also works with the on campus PRIDE group and Students for Gender Equality. Laura has spoken at several events on topics of straight ally activism, polyamory and safe sex. Her friends describe her as passionate, colorful, and determined. In her free time, Laura enjoys gardening, travel, reading, watching her children learn and naps.
